ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Princeton throwers Josh Probst and Alex Pessala each bettered NCAA regional qualifying standards in the javelin and hammer throws respectively to lead the Princeton men's track team in a six-team meet at the Naval Academy this weekend.
Probst's javelin throw of 212 feet even (64.62 meters) not only was a qualfying throw but also a personal best that won him the event Saturday. Pessala's best hammer toss of 56.55 meters (185 feet, six inches) was the winning throw on Saturday in addition to an NCAA regional qualifying distance. Two other Princeton throwers, Ken Stringer and Matt McNamara, finished in second and third behind Pessala, each with throws of better than 170 feet.
Ray Lenihan was another winner for the Tigers on Saturday, running an impressive hand-timed 14.40 into a wind to win the 110-meter hurdles.
In the 100 meters, sophomore Bill Foran ran a 10.80, tying for second in the race with Navy's Brandon Vier. Foran also finished third in the 200 meters in 22.70 seconds.
In the 1,500 meters, Kurt Kuehne was a close second in 3:56.80, less than half a second behind the winning time.
The Tigers will be back in action next Friday and Saturday when they host the annual Sam Howell Invitational at Weaver Stadium.
