The Princeton men's track team had several strong performances Saturday in a non-scored meet with Penn, Rutgers and Villanova at Weaver Stadium, including a pair of excellent relay performances and a big win in the javelin by Josh Probst.
Probst won that event with a huge toss of 223 feet, four inches (68.07 meters). His throw was nearly 19 feet better than that of Rutgers' Ian Menewisch.
On the track, Brian Shields had a busy day for Princeton, competing well in four events. The most successful was the 4X400 meter relay, where Shields joined Ian Thomson, Chris Roberson and Rich Stewart to win in a time of 3:15.14. He also ran the second leg on the 4X100 team that finished a close second to Penn and finished third overall in the 200 meters and fourth overall in the 100.
One of Shields' relay teammates, Ray Lenihan, had yet another win in his specialty, the 110-meter high hurdles. Lenihan ran a solid time of 14.45 to win that event.
Derek Davis, also a member of that 4X100 team, was a second-place finisher in the long jump, leaping 23 feet, 7 1/4 inches in that event (7.19 meters).
