PHILADELPHIA - The top-ranked Princeton open women cruised to victory in the Class of 1984 Trophy competition Saturday on the Schuylkill River. The Tigers swept all five races, and its top varsity ran its win streak to 33 races by routing both No. 10 Dartmouth and Penn in its only race outside of the Garden State.
Princeton has won the Class of 1984 Trophy every year since it was introduced in 1985. A combination of the first varsity, second varsity and novice eight races, the trophy goes to the school with the most depth.
Without question, Princeton is that team in 2006.
The Tigers first varsity won in 6:18.3, nearly 20 full seconds ahead of the tenth-ranked team in the country, Dartmouth (6:37.4). Penn finished third in 6:51.4. Princeton also claimed the other two races counting to the trophy, second varsity (6:42.3) and first novice (6:38.8).
Princeton also claimed both fours, including a 12.2-second victory in the first varsity race.
The Tigers will conclude their regular season next weekend at Lake Carnegie when they take on George Washington, Tennessee and Massachusetts. Besides looking to extend its first varsity win streak to 36 races, Princeton will look to complete a perfect novice season.
