Robinson, Henritze Earn All-Tournament Honors As Volleyball Sweeps First Weekend
September 10, 2006 | Women's Volleyball
A brilliant first weekend by starting setter Bailey Robinson and stellar performances from the young Princeton starting lineup led the women's volleyball team to a season-opening 3-0 weekend and a championship at the Colgate Invitational. Following Friday's night's 3-2 win over host Colgate, the Tigers toppled Canisius 3-0 Saturday morning and completed the sweep with a 3-1 win against Siena.
Robinson, in her first starts since taking over for Jenny Senske, was named tournament MVP, while classmate Parker Henritze joined her on the all-tournament team.
Princeton opened Saturday's session with 30-16, 30-21, 30-24 win over Canisius. Three Tigers had team-best 11 kills, including Henritze, the 2005 Ivy League Rookie of the Year. Sophomore middle Lindsay Ensign and freshman outside Sheena Donohue, who hit .429 in the match, also had 11 kills in the dominant victory. Robinson had 31 assists in the win, while senior libero Emily Turner led the team with 11 digs. As a team, Princeton hit nearly .300 in the opening game and allowed Canisius to hit over .050 in only one of three games.
Ensign was dominant in the 30-24, 30-21, 26-30, 31-29 win over Siena. She led all players with 23 kills, hit .439 for the match and added three blocks. Outsides Henritze and Donohue combined for 33 kills and 34 digs, with the freshman earning 18 and 18 respectively. Robinson recorded a double-double with 52 kills and 11 digs, while Turner led all players with 21 digs.
Princeton will compete at the Bucknell Invitational next weekend.
