Volleyball Sweeps LaSalle To Remain Undefeated
September 15, 2006 | Women's Volleyball
Building off its Colgate Invitational championship, the Princeton women's volleyball team opened the Bucknell Invitational with an impressive 3-0 victory over LaSalle. Led by a terrific all-around effort from sophomore middle Lindsay Ensign, the Tigers improved to 4-0 on the season and can claim its second tournament title in as many weeks with Saturday victories over Bucknell (noon) and Wagner (4:30).
Princeton earned the victory with game wins of 30-25, 30-20 and 30-20. The Tigers have now won 10 of their last 11 games played.
Ensign, one of the sophomores building on a full year of varsity experience, built off a strong effort in last weekend's win over Canisius, when she led the team with 24 kills. Against LaSalle, Ensign led all players with 15 kills and seven blocks, and her .481 attack percentage was best among all starters. Classmate Parker Henritze, the 2005 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, earned a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs, while freshman outside Sheena Donohue added seven kills and 14 digs.
Sophomore Bailey Robinson continued to settle into her role as the starting setter with a match-high 35 assists. She added five digs and four blocks in the win. Junior libero Emily Turner added a team-high 15 digs.
LaSalle stayed close early, but Princeton began to show its strength when it led 9-8 in the first game. Back-to-back kills by Henritze ignited a 10-1 run that would ultimately push the Tigers to their 30-25 wins. The Tiger defense was the story in the second match, holding LaSalle to a .024 hitting percentage in the second game and a -.020 percentage in the third game.
Bucknell defeated Wagner 3-0 in Friday's other match.
