PRINCETON -- The Princeton field hockey team is back in action on Saturday afternoon as it hosts Dartmouth at Class of '52 Stadium beginning at 12 noon. Princeton has won its last two games and will look to climb above .500 with a win on Saturday.
Princeton completed a stretch of three games in five days last weekend as it picked up wins at Yale and at home against No. 17 William & Mary. The wins moved Princeton to 2-2 after the Tigers dropped their first two games of the season, at No. 19 Richmond and at No. 7 Penn State.
Sophomore Katie Kinzer scored the game-winning goal in both of Princeton's wins last weekend. On Saturday at Yale she redirected a crossing pass from freshman Tina Bortz into the goal to give Princeton a 2-1 win, and on Sunday she deflected junior Paige Schmidt's shot into the William & Mary goal with 2:33 remaining to lift Princeton to a 1-0 win. Kinzer was named to the Ivy League Honor Roll on Tuesday for her performance over the weekend.
Bortz's assist on Saturday lofted her into a first-place tie with sophomore Leah Hoagland on the Princeton scoring charts with five points. Each has two goals and an assist. Kinzer moved into a tie with the pair for goals scored with her two tallies last weekend.
Senior goalkeeper Allison Nemeth allowed just one goal on 23 shots taken in her direction during the weekend. She made nine saves lowered her season goals-against average to 2.00 and raised her save percentage to .714. She was named to the womensfieldhockey.com honor roll for her play last weekend.
The Tigers will look to improve to 2-0 in Ivy play on Saturday against Dartmouth. Last season the Tigers defeated the Big Green 4-0. Kinzer and juniors Sarah YukiNicole Ng all scored in the win, while Nemeth earned the shutout win. Princeton is 18-7-2 all-time against Dartmouth and won last season's meeting after Dartmouth won in Princeton in 2003.
