Maag, Nightingale Qualify Provisionally for NCAA Mile at Penn State National Invitational
January 28, 2007 | Men's Track and Field
Princeton milers Michael Maag and David Nightingale each qualified provisionally for the mile at March's NCAA indoor championships to lead several Princeton performers at the Penn State National Invitational Saturday at Horace Ashenfelter Track.
Maag and Nightingale finished the eight laps in times of 4:03.12 and 4:03.55 respectively in the invitational race, each crossing the line below the provisional 4:04 NCAA qualifying time. The pair finished second and third among collegiate runners in the race behind Pitt's Sam Bair, who set a PSU record with a time of 4:00.87.
The Tigers also had another winner on the track in the 500 meters as senior Rich Stewart finished the race in a time of 1:02.85, very close to the PSU record and the top collegiate time in the race.
In another bracket of the mile, Jim O'Toole finished third in a time of 4:11.29.
Kurt Kuehne finished fifth in the 800 meters for Princeton in a time of 1:54.99, while Ben White was fifth in the 1,000 meters in a time of 2:30.29.
