October 12, 2007 | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
Princeton's nationally-ranked cross country teams will be in action Saturday both locally and hundreds of miles away, with the top runners from each squad competing at the annual Pre-Nationals Meet in Terre Haute, Ind., and many of the rest of the Tigers competing at the Princeton Invitational on the West Windsor Fields.
The Princeton Invitational will feature athletes from Princeton, Georgetown, Monmouth, Columbia, St. Peter's, Penn and Villanova and begin at 10 a.m. with the eight-kilometer men's race. The women's 6.1-kilometer race follows at 10:45 a.m.
11 Tiger men will compete in the 83-runner field, while five Princeton women will compete in a field of more than 60 runners. Results will be available at GoPrincetonTigers.com following the meet.
The 2007 ISU Pre-Nationals Meet in Terre Haute, Ind., which takes place on the same course as November's NCAA championship meet, will feature 23 nationally-ranked squads on the women's side and 26 nationally-ranked teams on the men's side.
The Tiger women are ranked No. 8 nationally and will compete in the second women's race, the "White" race, which begins at 12:55 p.m. That 6K race features 11 nationally-ranked squads, including three other top 10 teams in No. 2 Colorado, No. 6 Arizona State and No. 10 Illinois.
The Princeton men, receiving votes in this week's national poll, will compete in the men's "White" race, which begins at 11:40 a.m. That race will feature 13 nationally-ranked teams, including No. 3 Colorado, No. 5 Stanford and No. 7 Notre Dame. The Tigers will be racing for the first time this season with senior captain David Nightingale, who has missed most of the season with a leg injury.
Saturday's schedule also features "Blue" races on both the men's and women's sides, each of which have 10 or more nationally-ranked teams competing, as well as "open" races in the afternoon.
The Princeton women have won both invitational races in which they have competed this year, the Fordham Invitational Sept. 8 and Lehigh's Paul Short Run Sept. 28. The Tiger men also had a strong performance at the Paul Short meet, finishing in third place.
