The Princeton-Harvard series
The Crimson leads the all-time series with Princeton 18-8-1, though the Tigers have gone 4-1-1 in the last six years against Harvard, winning three straight.
Last time against Harvard
It was a record-setting night for the Orange and Black last Oct. 21 on Lourie-Love Field against Harvard. Vicki Anagnostopoulos became the first Tiger rookie and the fourth Tiger ever to score four goals in a game as Princeton scored five against Harvard for the first time in the long-running series.
Last time in Cambridge
Princeton's last visit to Harvard Oct. 22, 2005 didn't lack for excitement. Emily Behncke '06 scored with 14 seconds to go in the second overtime to give the Tigers a 2-1 win after Behncke also scored Princeton's first goal in the 39th minute.
I'm honored
Marissa Sampias helped Princeton to an Ivy League weekly honor for the second straight week when she was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week Monday. Sampias scored Princeton's second goal in the team's 2-0 win over Columbia Saturday. Diana Matheson had Princeton's first league honor of the season when she was named Ivy League Player of the Week Oct. 8.
Lehigh recap
A goal by Alexandra Valerio in the 42nd minute helped Princeton to a 1-0 win over Lehigh Wednesday. Princeton has won all 13 meetings with the Mountain Hawks and has allowed only one goal in the entire series.
Canadian connection
Diana Matheson had the assist on Alexandra Valerio's goal at Lehigh Wednesday. Though Matheson played with three fellow Canadians on the 2004 Tiger team, it was the first time Matheson assisted a countryman as a Princetonian.
Any foot, any time
11 Tigers have found the back of the net this season. That list includes six players who scored their first-career goal this year: Alexandra Valerio, Melissa Whitley, Marissa Sampias, Libby van Beuren, Regina Yang and Allison Williams.
Steady keeper
Princeton goalkeeper Maren Dale has started the Tigers' last 28 games and has a goals-against average of 0.98 in that span.
Still going
Junior defender Taylor Numann, a first-team All-Ivy honoree in 2006, has started every game of her career, a streak 44 contests long. Numann and freshman Marissa Sampias are the only Tigers to have started every possible game during their Princeton careers.
Every minute
Melissa Seitz and Taylor Numann continued their run of playing all 1,111 minutes this season by going the full 90 against Lehigh Wednesday.
A class-y race
Princeton's points this year continue to be relatively evenly split across the four classes. Diana Matheson has paced the senior class with 13 of its 19 points, while Alexandra Valerio's goal gives her seven of 14 points for the freshmen. Junior Jen Om has eight of her class's 13, while Marci Pasenello has eight of the sophomores' 12.
On Harvard
Harvard's two leading scorers and 11 of the team's 16 goals have come from freshmen. Katherine Sheeleigh leads the team with six goals and Gina Wideroff is second with three. Lauren Mann has been in net for every minute this year, toting an 0.60 goals-against average with eight shutouts. The Crimson have won seven of their last nine games with the two losses, both in Ivy play, by one goal each.
Go Big Red
Two Lawrenceville School alumni will meet on the pitch Saturday in Princeton's Bernie Da Costa and Harvard's Lizzy Nichols, who is a native of Princeton.
Common foes
Princeton and Harvard have faced only two of the same teams so far this year, including the Ivy League schedule, with different outcomes in each game. Harvard won a 1-0 overtime game over Boston University while the Terriers got an early goal in a Sept. 2 win over Princeton. Harvard fell to Brown last weekend, also 1-0, while Princeton defeated the Bears 4-1 the weekend prior.
