Princeton Knocks Off No. 1 New Hampshire 2-1

DURHAM, N.H. -- Senior Lizzie Keady scored 3:05 into the third period to snap a 1-1 tie and lift the Princeton women's hockey team to a 2-1 win at top-ranked New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon. The win snapped a 21-game winless streak for Princeton at New Hampshire.
New Hampshire outshot Princeton in the game and 6-2 edge in shots, but Princeton's second shot turned into the only goal of the period when senior Sonja Novak scored her fourth goal of the season when her centering pass deflected into the Wildcat goal. The goal came at 14:01 on a 2 on 1 as Novak sent a centering feed to the crease. Freshmen Sasha Sherry and Jenna Hauca assisted on the goal.
New Hampshire evened the score with the only goal of the second period with 1:20 left in the stanza as Micaela Long scored on the power play from Maggie Joyce. New Hampshire doubled Princeton in shots 10-05 in the period.
The game entered the third period tied up at one goal apiece until Keady broke the deadlock at 3:05 with her fourth goal of the season from senior Brittany Salmon and junior Katherine Dineen. Princeton outshot New Hampshire 7-6 in the final period.
Junior goaltender Kristen Young stopped 21 of the 22 shots she faced to record the win, while Kayley Herman made 12 saves in the loss.
Princeton improved to 3-3-2 overall with the non-league win, while New Hampshire falls to 9-2-0. The Tigers win completed a weekend sweep as Princeton topped Boston University 4-2 yesterday afternoon. Princeton's win was its first ever at New Hampshire. The Tigers had been 0-20-1 in their previous 21 trips to UNH. The win was Princeton's first this season against a ranked team.
Princeton is back in action next weekend at home when Cornell and Colgate visit Hobey Baker Rink.
