MacIntyre Nets Two as Princeton Wins 2-1 at Colgate
February 16, 2007 | Men's Ice Hockey
HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Freshman Cam MacIntyre scored twice in the second period to give the Princeton men's hockey team a 2-0 lead in an eventual 2-1 win at Colgate on Friday night. MacIntyre's second goal came on the power play and coupled with a 37-save performance from senior netminder B.J. Sklapsky gave Princeton its 11th win of the season, one more than its win total of a season ago.
After an even first period that saw each team take 13 shots and each goaltender stop everything he faced, the Tigers jumped to a 2-0 lead with two goals from MacIntyre in the second period. The first goal was the result of a fortuitous bounce in the defensive and offensive zone. In the Princeton end, a Tiger miscue almost put the puck behind Sklapsky, but sophomore Brett Wilson fished it out and started up ice. Once in the Colgate zone the Raiders attempted to clear the puck but the attempt bounced off the stick of senior Grant Goeckner-Zoeller right to MacIntyre who buried it for the game's first goal.
MacIntyre's second tally came later in the period on the power play and was again a case of Princeton turning a Colgate scoring chance into a goal. Colgate got the puck on Sklapsky who made two big saves, but the Colgate forwards got too deep when played went the other way and Princeton had a 3 on 2. Sophomore Lee Jubinville got the puck to senior Darroll Powe who hit MacIntyre, the trailer with a drop pass and MacIntyre tucked a shot in between the pad of Raider netminder Mark Dekanich and the far post for his sixth goal of the season.
Colgate came out hard for the third period and drew several early penalties before Marc Fulton was able to put the Raiders on the board and cut the lead in half at 10:04 with a goal that he created as he circled through the Tiger zone. Jesse Winchester and Tyler Burton set up the goal.
Sklapsky finished the night with 37 saves for his second win in a row. He made 10 saves in the third as Colgate pressured to even the game. Dekanich made 29 saves for Colgate.
The Tigers are now 11-13-3 overall and 8-9-2 in the ECAC Hockey League and leapfrogged Colgate in the standings.
