4X800 Group, Nightingale Lead Tigers at New Balance Collegiate Invitational

A week after provisionally qualifying for the NCAA championship mile, Princeton junior David Nightingale had a strong performance in the 3,000 meters Saturday at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at the 168th Street Armory.
Nightingale finished in 3rd place in the 3,000 championship race, finishing just more than half a second behind the eight-minute mark. The time of 8:00.54 for the 15 laps was the second-best in school history behind that of All-America Bill Burke '91, who ran a 7:58.66 in 1991.
Princeton teammate Michael Maag, who also qualified provisionally in the mile last week, was 11th in the same 3,000 race on Saturday in a time of 8:03.84.
The Tigers' had an impressive second-place performance in the 4X800 relay Saturday, finishing in second in that race. The team of Collin Plummer, Mike Kowal, Kurt Kuehne and Jordan Hill completed the event in 7:33.73, less than half a second behind first-place Columbia.
The relay team's splits got progressively faster in the 4X800 performance. Kowal ran the first four laps in 1:54.6, followed by Plummer in 1:53.9. Beights finished 800 meters in 1:52.5, while Kuehne was the anchor and ran his four laps in 1:52.4.
Princeton's 4X400 group was ninth in that event on Saturday, finishing the race in 3:16.84.
In the pole vault, Andrew Park cleared just more than 16 feet to place 11th. In the college division of the mile run, Frank Tinney and Rob Grote were 11th and 12th respectively in times below the 4:16 mark.
