Shaughnessy Named CWPA Player of the Week

PRINCETON -- Senior Samantha Shaughnessy was named the CWPA's Player of the Week on Monday for her performance during Princeton's weekend sweep of league foes Bucknell and Maryland. Shaughnessy scored in Friday's win, before making 12 saves on Saturday.
The senior began the weekend by contributing a goal, assist and three steals in Friday's 15-12 win over Bucknell. A night later, she was the surprise starter in goal as she filled in for Princeton's usual starter, junior Natalie Kim, who was sick. Shaughnessy and the Tiger defense tightened things up as the Tigers won 8-4 over Maryland. Shaughnessy stopped 12 of the 16 shots she faced in the game and the four goals scored against Princeton was a low for the season. Prior to the game, Shaughnessy had only played half of a quarter of goal in her collegiate career, that coming earlier this season.
Princeton returns to action this weekend when it begins its weeklong trip in California. The Tigers play seven games over the course of the week, beginning on Saturday at San Jose State and UC Santa Cruz.
