Princeton Splits Games, Falls to SDSU, Tops Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. -- The Princeton women's water polo team split a pair of games on Sunday at Pacific, falling to seventh-ranked San Diego State 13-8 and defeating Pacific 14-8. Senior Elyse Colgan led the Princeton charge with 10 goals during the day and eight in the win.
Seventh-ranked San Diego State scored four times in the final quarter to pull away and defeat the 18th-ranked Princeton women's water polo team 13-8 on Sunday afternoon. The game was Princeton's first of the day and the Tigers will take on Pacific later tonight.
The teams each scored two goals in the opening period before the Aztecs pulled ahead with a one-goal lead at the half at 6-5. Princeton was in the game most of the way, running with one of the nation's top teams, before San Diego State extended the lead to two goals after three quarters and pulled away late in the game.
Senior Elyse Colgan was the lone Tiger to score more than once in the game, as she netted two goals. Among those players scoring single goals in the game were senior Karina Reyner, sophomore Claire Jacobson and senior Jessica Ajoux. Senior Shannon Devore made eight saves in the loss.

The Tigers picked up a win later in the evening with a 14-8 win over Pacific. Princeton trailed 3-2 after a quarter but took a one-goal lead into the half before pulling away in the second half. Leading 8-5 in the third period, Princeton scored six straight goals to go ahead 14-5 before Pacific tacked on the final three goals of the game.
Colgate once again led the offense scoring eight goals for Princeton. The eight-goal outing ties a Princeton single-game record. Princeton's other eight-goal performance came from Adele McCarthy-Beauvais against Michigan on March 23, 2002. Senior Jazmin Brown added two goals and four other Princeton players scored single goals. Devore made seven saves for the Tigers, which are now 11-6 overall. Princeton returns to action on Wednesday at Cal State Monterey Bay.
