Nightingale Nearly Sets School Record in 5,000 Invitational Race at Mt. SAC Relays
April 14, 2007 | Men's Track and Field
Running in an invitational field featuring many top American and international runners, Princeton junior David Nightingale nearly broke the Princeton record in the 5,000 meters on the way to a 21st-place finish in the 5,000-meter invitational race at the Mt. SAC Relays late Friday night in California.
Nightingale's time for the 12 1/2 laps was 13:49.90, less than a second behind the Princeton outdoor record of 13:49.39 set by All-America Paul Morrison '02 back in 2000.
He was the eighth collegiate finisher in the race and was 21st out of a field of 34 runners in total.
The Tigers also had several other competitors in the Mt. SAC Relays in both the 5,000-Meter University/Open division and in the 10,000-meter invitational race that closed the evening.
Michael Maag was the star for the Tigers in the 5,000 university/open race, finishing in third place overall in a time of 14:05.97. He finished behind only Central Arizona's Tyson David and Colorado's Kenyon Neuman and ahead of four runners from Arkansas.
Frank Tinney (14:37.89) and James O'Toole (14:58.85) also participated in that race for Princeton.
Justin Pines (29:54.96) and Paul Rosa (30:24.21) were the Princeton finishers in the 10,000 meters on Friday night.
