Yale Claims Eisenberg Cup Over Tiger Open Crew
April 14, 2007 | Women's Rowing - Open
The defending national champion Princeton open crew continued its rebuilding season with a tough day of racing in New Haven, Conn. The first varsity and second varsity races were both extremely close, but unfortunately for the Tigers, both went to the host Bulldogs, as did the Eisenberg Cup.
No. 9 Princeton (3-4, 2-3 Ivy League) raced well and completed its 1V competition in 5:59.7, but the tough Yale squad, which is currently ranked fourth nationally and even has a first-place vote, edged out the Tigers in 5:58.0. The 2V competition was more of the same, as the Bulldogs' winning time of 6:10.0 topped Princeton's time of 6:11.3.
The schools split a pair of varsity four competitions, with Princeton taking the 'B' race in 7:08.2 against Yale's time of 7:17.4. Yale also won the first novice race in 6:58.5, while Princeton came in at 7:05.7.
The Tigers will return to friendly waters next weekend when they host Penn, Bucknell and Dartmouth on Lake Carnegie.
