Tiger Women's Track Finishes Second in Tri-Meet With Penn & Yale
April 14, 2007 | Women's Track and Field
Princeton won six events Saturday in a women's track tri-meet against Penn and Yale at Weaver Track, getting a pair of wins from sophomore sprinter Agatha Offorjebe in the 200- and 400-meter dashes.
Penn won the team scoring in a close meet with 81 points, while Princeton was second with 67 points and Yale third with a total of 54 points.
Offorjebe contributed 10 points to the Princeton cause on her own with wins in both the 200 and 400 meters. She finished the 200 in a time of 24.99 seconds, the only competitor of 11 on Saturday to finish below the 25-second mark. She also won the 400 in a time of 54.97 seconds, the only time among the eight competitors below the 55-second mark.
The Tigers' standout freshman distance duo of Liz Costello and Christy Johnson again shone on Saturday, finishing 1-2 in the 1,500 meters. Costello was first in 4:26.45, while Johnson was second in 4:28.79. Heather Iatauro was fifth for Princeton in that race in a time of 4:36.10.
Princeton also won two field events on Saturday. Emma Harper's hammer throw of 49.16 meters (161 feet, three inches) was the winning toss, outdistancing Penn's Catrina Chisholm by three inches. In the high jump, all three competitors cleared the 5-3 mark, but Princeton's Christina Argyros was the first to do so and earned five points for the event win.
Reilly Kiernan was Princeton's sixth event winner, taking the steeplechase in an impressive time of 10:33.22. Teammate Megan Brandeland was second in that race in a time of 10:41.59.
Princeton will host the Larry Ellis Invitational at Weaver Track next weekend.
