The seventh-ranked Princeton women's open crew continued its dominating ways in the Class of 1984 Trophy race on Lake Carnegie on Saturday. The Orange and Black kept the stranglehold on the trophy by taking four of the five races it competed in against Dartmouth, Penn, and Bucknell. As a result of their dominating effort, the Tigers can still say they have won the trophy every year since it was started in 1985. The races were tightly contested among all four teams competing, including the varsity eight race in which every boat finished within 10 seconds of each other.
The Orange and Black took the very tight varsity eight race, rowing in 6:39.6 to best second-place Dartmouth by two seconds. The second varsity eight boat also took the top time in its race, outrowing the Big Green by nine seconds. The Tigers bested the Bucknell Bison by 11 seconds in the varsity four race, to cross the finish line in 7:44.3. The freshmen four routed the field as they outrowed second-place Dartmouth by nearly 24 seconds and third-place Bucknell by nearly 48 seconds.
The Penn 1N boat won the frosh/novice 8 race in which Princeton did not compete. The Quakers recorded a time of 7:12.1.
The Tigers stay in Princeton next Saturday to host another four-team regatta with Georgetown, the University of Virginia, and Notre Dame.
