Women's Open Crew Places 2nd at Cornell
April 07, 2007 | Women's Rowing - Open
The women's open crew team took home second in the Class of 1975 Cup race at Cornell on Saturday. The sixth-ranked Tigers dealt with swirling headwinds and a temperature of 30 degrees, but bested host Cornell by 22 seconds in the varsity eight race. Princeton's underclassmen also shined in Saturday's regatta, as the second varsity eight, varsity four, and novice four took the top times in their races. The second varsity eight won in 6:54.4, five seconds ahead of Radcliffe and 30 seconds ahead of the Big Red. The Tigers also pulled out a win in an extremely tight varsity four race, crossing the finish line just 1.2 seconds ahead of Radcliffe. The novice fours - Princeton's only novice entry of the day - outrowed Cornell by 17 seconds.
The Tigers face a showdown with Ivy-rival and fourth-ranked Yale next Saturday. Princeton topped Yale last year by nine seconds in the varsity eight race.
