May 02, 2007 | Baseball
PRINCETON -- Rider scored two runs in the top of the 10th, then held off Princeton for an 8-7 win on Wednesday afternoon at Clarke Field. Four Tigers had two hits each in the loss, which concluded Princeton's 2007 baseball season.
Princeton took a 2-0 lead in the third inning of the game when singles from junior Spencer Lucian and freshman Brian Berkowitz scored runs. Princeton made it 3-0 an inning later when freshman David Hale walked, stole second and scored on senior Aaron Prince's single.
Princeton held the 3-0 lead until the sixth inning when Rider scored four runs to take a 4-3 lead. David and James Hayes had back-to-back two runs doubles to put the Broncs on the board. Rider made its lead 5-3 in the top of the seventh before Princeton evened it up with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. First, with the bases loaded, sophomore Derek Beckman hit a run-scoring single, then sophomore Eric Zaziski hit a sac fly to tie the game.
Princeton took a 6-5 lead an inning later when junior Micah Kaplan scored on a wild pitch, but Rider evened the score at 6-6 with a run in the ninth on Maurice Williams' single.
Rider then took an 8-6 lead with two runs in the top of the 10th inning as Brian McCollum singled in a run and a run scored on a wild pitch. Princeton got one of those runs back when sophomore Dan DeGeorge scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 10th, but the game ended with Rider ahead 8-7.
Senior pitchers Gavin Fabian and Michael Zaret gave Princeton five scoreless innings to begin the game. Junior Steven Miller pitched the 10th and took the loss.
Princeton completes its season with a 15-24 record.
