Tigers Complete First Day at NCAA East Regional Track Championships

Princeton got scoring performances in the 5,000 meters from David Nightingale on the men's side and Catha Mullen on the women's side to highlight Tiger performances on the first day of the 2007 NCAA East Regional Track & Field Championships at James G. Pressly Stadium.
Nightingale was seventh in the men's 5,000 in a time of 13:59.53, while Mullen finished eighth in the women's race in a time of 16:21.64.
Tiger men participated in two other finals on Friday, both in the field events. Andrew Park scored for Princeton in the pole vault competition, placing sixth with a best leap of 16 feet, 7 1/4 inches, while Alex Pessala placed 22nd in the hammer throw with a toss of 181 feet, 10 inches.
On the women's side, Princeton Jolee VanLeuven and Christy Johnson also ran in the 5,000 along with Mullen, finishing 17th and 27th respectively. Both freshman Liz Costello and senior Caroline Mullen ran in the 1,500-meter prelims, with Costello's time of 4:25.69 good for 14th place and Mullen's 4:39.15 finishing 29th.
Both Michael Maag and Frank Tinney finished in the top 20 in the 5,000 meters on the men's side. Maag ran a 14:23.78 for 15th place, while Tinney's 14:28.95 was 18th best on the day.
Agatha Offorjebe ran a 55.80 in the 400 meter prelims on the women's side, while James O'Tolle was 20th in the men's 1,500 prelims in 3:50.70.
