Nightingale, Mullen Earn ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Honors
June 07, 2007 | Men's Track and Field
Princeton distance runners David Nightingale and Catha Mullen each earned ESPN The Magazine Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-District honors in voting announced Thursday.
Nightingale, a junior politics major, was a first-team all-district selection on the men's side, making him eligible for national CoSIDA Academic All-America honors announced later this month. Mullen, who graduated from Princeton with a degree in politics on Tuesday, was a second-team all-district selection on the women's side.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America program honors student-athletes in 11 different sports and at "at-large" category. Nominees must be starters or significant reserves with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher and at least sophomore standing at their respective institutions.
Nightingale, a West Hartford, Conn., native, has already earned All-America honors in cross country and indoor track & field this season and has a chance to be an All-America in the 5,000 meters outdoors when he competes in the final of that event Friday night at the NCAA championship meet.
Mullen, a team captain as a senior, was the outdoor Heptagonal champion in 2007 in the 3,000 meters and has also advanced to the final of the NCAA 5,000 meters on the women's side.
