August 21, 2007 | Field Hockey
The Princeton field hockey team was ranked 18th in the 2007 STX/NFHCA Preseason Poll that was released on Tuesday. The two-time defending Ivy League champion Tigers received 119 votes and were the Ivy League's lone representative in the Top 20. Princeton, which knocked off third-seeded Old Dominion in the first round of the 2006 NCAA tournament, was the top team receiving votes in the final poll of last season.
The Tigers will face five teams ranked in the preseason Top 20 during the regular season. Those games come against top-ranked Maryland, fifth-ranked Connecticut, seventh-ranked Penn State, 16th-ranked American and 18th-ranked Providence. Princeton will also face four teams that received votes in the poll but were not ranked in the Top 20: Richmond, Dartmouth, Penn and Cornell.
