Tigers Host H/Y/P Women's Cross Country Meet Saturday Morning
September 14, 2007 | Women's Cross Country
Princeton looks for its fifth consecutive victory in its annual women's cross country meet with Harvard and Yale Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m.. The 31st Annual tri-meet is being contested for the first time at the new Princeton cross country course on the West Windsor Fields, which opened in 2006.
A Tiger victory today would equal Yale's five straight meet victories from 1986-90. Harvard has the longest streak of H/Y/P victories with six straight from 1980 through 1985.
The Tigers opened their 2007 season by winning the 23-team Fordham Invitational last Saturday at Van Cortlandt Park. Princeton took places two through six in the event on the way to an impressive score of 20, with sophomore Christy Johnson leading a pack that also included Megan Brandeland, Liz Costello, Ashley Higginson and Caitlin McTague.
The Harvard women competed with Brown, Boston University, Manhattan and Marist in a meet last Friday at Franklin Park. Thea Lee and Eliza Ives, both freshman, each finished in the top 10 individually for the Crimson in that 5K race.
Yale is making its 2007 season debut this weekend.
The winner of Saturday's meet takes home the Cheever Memorial Trophy, given in fond memory of Olivia Thorndike Cheever (Radcliffe '43, '49) by her brother John.
The team with the lowest combined score (the places of the first five finishers on each team) wins. The race will also be scored in three dual meets (Yale-Harvard, Yale-Princeton, Harvard-Princeton).
