September 27, 2007 | Women's Soccer
Princeton vs. Dartmouth
Sat., Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.
Burnham Field (Dartmouth)
Records: Princeton 2-4-1; Dartmouth 2-6-0
All-Time Series: Dartmouth leads 13-12-1
Princeton head coach: Julie Shackford (13th season/William and Mary '88)
Dartmouth head coach: Angie Hind (3rd season/Strathclyde '98)
Ivy opener
Princeton will open the Ivy League portion of the schedule Saturday at Dartmouth. The Big Green are the second-most common Ivy-opening opponent all-time for the Tigers as the two have met seven times to open the league slate. Most of those meetings were in the 1980s, however, as Yale has been Princeton's first Ivy opponent the last five years. The last time Princeton started its league schedule with Dartmouth was 2001, a 1-0 Tiger win. Princeton coach Julie Shackford has twice taken her team to Hanover to start the Ivy slate, with the only other time a 1997 loss.
On the road again
In the 28th season of varsity women's soccer at Princeton, 2007 marks the 22nd time the Tigers have opened the Ivy League season on the road. The Tigers opened their first eight league schedules as the visitor, but had alternated home and away with Yale the last five years heading into 2007.
Shackford in openers
Since taking over the program in 1995, Princeton head coach Julie Shackford is 8-4 in Ivy League openers.
Series with the Big Green
A Princeton win Saturday would even the all-time series with Dartmouth as the Big Green currently have a 13-12-1 lead. After Dartmouth took eight straight from 1991 to 1998, Princeton has won six of the last eight.
All-time in Hanover
Dartmouth leads the all-time series 7-5-1 on its home turf, but Princeton has won three of the last four on the road.
Last time against Dartmouth
The teams will meet on Sept. 29 for the second straight year. In 2006, the now-graduated Emily Tracy scored the game's only goal in the 39th minute to lift Dartmouth to a 1-0 win.
Last time in Hanover
Diana Matheson had three points as Princeton defeated Dartmouth 2-0 in 2005. Matheson had Princeton's first goal on a free kick at the 21-minute mark and she assisted on a goal by Emily Behncke '06 at 59 minutes.
Homecoming
Princeton junior Sarah Peteraf is a Hanover native as both of her parents teach or research at Dartmouth.
Putting the O in Om
Junior Jen Om has had three of Princeton's eight goals, all in a span of 12 days. Om came into the season with one goal through her first two campaigns.
First for everything
Two Princeton freshmen have already had their first career goals with the Tigers. Alexandra Valerio had Princeton's first goal of the season on Sept. 14 at Notre Dame, and Libby van Beuren added her name to the list against Sacred Heart Wednesday.
Home field advantage
Though the Tigers won't be able to add to either streak this weekend, Princeton has not allowed a goal in the 290 minutes played at home this season and is undefeated in its last five matches at Old Nassau.

Finding their touch
After not scoring for the season's first 310:04, Princeton has scored eight goals in the last 349:27.
Shuffling the order
Fifteen Tigers have earned starts in the seven games this season with eight starting every contest so far. Princeton has used five distinct starting lineups on the season.
All feet on deck
Every non-goalkeeper on the roster, other than Diana Matheson who is re-adjusting from the Women's World Cup, has seen action for Princeton this season, including all six non-goalkeeper freshmen.
Rookies on the turf
Among Princeton's class of eight freshmen, all six non-goalkeepers had seen action heading into Wednesday's game. Alyssa Pont made it seven rookies when she relieved Maren Dale for the last 9:25 against Sacred Heart. Three freshmen have been in the starting lineup at some point during the year and Alexandra Valerio and Marissa Sampias have started all seven games.
Steady keeper
Princeton goalkeeper Maren Dale has started the Tigers' last 23 games and has a goals-against average of 1.07 in that span.
39 and counting...
Junior defender Taylor Numann, a first-team All-Ivy honoree in 2006, has started every game of her career, a streak 39 contests long.
Chasing history
Princeton head coach Julie Shackford has been the all-time winningest women's soccer coach at the school since 2000, her sixth season on the job. She is just three wins from becoming the all-time winningest soccer coach, men's or women's, at Princeton. With 135 wins, Shackford is one behind Jimmy Reed, who coached the men's squad from 1938-66.
On Dartmouth
Four Dartmouth players have had the team's five goals, including two freshmen in Sarah Bromley and Peyton Tata. Maggie Goldstein leads the team with two goals. Junior Laurel Peak has spent all but a half of one game in goal and carries a goals-against average of 1.56.
Tigers on the tube
Princeton will host local rival Rutgers next Tuesday on Powers Field at Princeton Stadium. The game will be broadcast on tape delay by CSTV, which will show it at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5.
