Cross Country To Compete At 34th Annual Brooks Paul Short Run
September 27, 2007 | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
The nationally-ranked Princeton cross country teams will compete at the 34th annual Brooks Paul Short Run Friday afternoon at Lehigh, with the women looking for a second straight meet title and the men hoping to improve on last season's eighth-place finish.
One of the largest cross country meets in the nation begins with the men's college 8K "Brown" race beginning at 1 p.m. and the women's college 6K "Brown" race following at 1:40 p.m. at Lehigh's Goodman Campus.
The Tiger women, ranked No. 16 nationally and first regionally entering the 2007 race, won the Paul Short meet last season, edging Wisconsin by a mere one point (61-62) in a tight battle for the top. Three of Princeton's scorers in that meet will run Friday in sophomores Liz Costello and Christy Johnson and senior Caitlin McTague.
The Tiger men finished second at their season-opening meet at Fordham three weeks ago despite being without 2007 All-America and team captain David Nightingale. Ben Sitler was the Tigers' top finisher in that event, while Frank Tinney, Michael Maag and Tim O'Neill were right behind. Princeton is ranked No. 27 nationally and No. 2 regionally in this week's USTFCCCA men's cross country poll.
The Princeton women are one of four nationally-ranked Division I teams in the 2007 field along with Wisconsin (5), Texas Tech (25) and Tennessee (26). The Princeton men are one of three nationally-ranked teams in Friday's field along with No. 4 Iona and No. 26 Syracuse.
Several nationally-ranked Division II and Division III teams are also in each field Friday.
