Men's Tennis Knocks Off UMBC, 6-1, In ECAC Division I Invitational First Round

Alex Krueger-Wyman helped Princeton clinch a close doubles point and also won in straight sets at No. 2 singles to help the No. 3 seed Tigers to a 6-1 win over No. 14 seed UMBC at the ECAC Division I Invitational Friday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Krueger-Wyman and George Carpeni defeated Chris Meyer and Fredi Voorman by an 8-6 score at No. 1 doubles after the Tigers and Retrievers had split the other two doubles matches. The Princeton junior then defeated Voorman by scores of 6-3 and 6-2 in singles to help the Tigers advance to the quarterfinals.
Princeton will play No. 6 seed Yale in a quarterfinal match Saturday morning beginning at 8 a.m. The Bulldogs defeated No. 11 seed Georgetown, 4-3, on Friday.
The Tigers had two other straight-set winners on Friday. No. 3 Alex Vuckovic lost just three games in a win over UMBC's Nick Savage-Pollock, while No. 6 player Jonathan Leslie defeated Fernando Ferreira by scores of 7-5 and 6-3.
At No. 1, Carpeni lost the first set to Meyer in a tiebreak but came back to win the match impressively, losing just one game in the final two sets.
Princeton also won at No. 3 doubles, where Ilya Trubov and freshman Ryan Kim won by an 8-2 score.
