Volleyball Overcomes Trio Of Match Points, Claims First Win Of Season

The Princeton women's volleyball team stared down an 0-3 weekend three times Saturday against Fordham, and the Tigers never blinked. Trailing 14-12 in the fifth game, Princeton fought off a trio of match balls and came back for a 20-18 win in the finale. Sophomore Sheena Donohue, whose ace finished the match, led Princeton with 18 kills and 22 digs.
Princeton, which fell to Syracuse and Texas Tech in the fist two matches of the Syracuse Tournament, defeated Fordham 30-25, 28-30, 30-15, 32-34, 20-18 to end the weekend with its first win of the season. The Tigers were led by Sheena Donohue, whose spectacular effort included 18 kills, 22 digs, and Parker Henritze, who recorded 15 kills and 10 digs.
Lindsey Ensign led Princeton with 19 kills, while freshman middle Elizabeth McStravick came in to chip in five kills and a team-high three blocks to finish her first collegiate weekend. Junior Bailey Robinson had 64 assists to lead the offense, while senior Jenny McReynolds finished a strong weekend at libero with 25 digs. Sophomore Taylor Carroll added 12 kills from the rightside position.
After losing a marathon fourth game, Princeton faced its first match point at 14-12 of the fifth game. A kill from Ensign and an attack error evened the score at 14-14, and when Fordham took a 18-17 lead, Donohue recorded her 18th kill of the match. A kill by Carroll moved the score to 19-18, and an ace by Donohue ended the weekend on a positive note.
Princeton will host Rider Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
