Top-Ranked Women's Squash Falls In 5-4 Thriller At No. 2 Penn
January 30, 2008 | Women's Squash
A marathon Wednesday night went Penn's way, as the Quakers' No. 2 women's squash team knocked off No. 1 Princeton 5-4 at the Ringe Squash Courts. The Quakers are now 8-0 on the season, while Princeton suffered its first loss since the 2006-07 season.
"Penn played great squash tonight," head coach Gail Ramsay said. "They were on their home court and feeling good. I thought we could have done a little better here and there, but we played hard and did our best. Hopefully we'll get another chance at them and play even better."
Playing a three-round format, Princeton jumped out to a 3-0 lead with wins by freshman Jackie Moss (No. 3) and senior tri-captains Casey Riley (No. 6) and Margaret Kent (No. 9). Fellow tri-captain Carly Grabowski added a win at No. 8 for Princeton, but that would be it. Led by 2007 national finalist Kristen Lange, who topped Amanda Siebert 3-1 at No. 1, the Quakers pulled out the necessary five wins to gain the inside track on the Ivy League title.
Princeton will play two home matches this weekend, beginning with a 3 p.m. showdown against Yale Saturday.
