Cross Country Hosts Princeton Invitational on Saturday

PRINCETON, N.J. (10/17/08) ? The Princeton men and women's cross country teams will host the Princeton Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 18. The men's 8K race begins at 10 a.m., and the women's 6K will start at 10:45 a.m.
Thirteen teams will compete in the men's race, including: Bucknell, Columbia, Duquesne, Lehigh, Loyola, Maryland, Monmouth, NJIT, Penn, St. Joseph's, Temple, Towson and UMBC. The same squads will compete on the women's side with the exception of NJIT and Penn.
The last time out on the home course, senior Cameron Marantz led the Tigers with a time of 19:32.90. He was followed by senior Michael Maag and freshman Brian Leung at 19:33.60 and 19:33.70, respectively.
Only three female runners will represent Princeton at the race, as the rest of the team will be at the Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind. The women's 6K race starts at 11:35 a.m., with a total of 41 other teams competing. Eight of those squads are ranked nationally, including: Florida State (No. 3), Arizona State (No. 8), Stony Brook (No. 12), Baylor (No. 14), Illinois (No. 17), Georgetown (No. 19), Northern Arizona (No. 22), Syracuse (No. 30).
The women's team has had different leaders in the past three races. Freshman Alex Banfich posted the team's best time at the Notre Dame Invitational, while senior Megan Brandeland led at HYP, and Liz Costello at the Old Nassau Run.
