October 18, 2008 | Women's Volleyball
Finally, the Princeton women's volleyball team is coming home. After playing its first 13 matches on the road, the 2007 Ivy League champion will get its first home match Friday night against Harvard (7, Dillon Gym). The long road trip ended Saturday afternoon with a convincing 3-0 win over Brown.
Princeton improved to 10-3, 4-1 in the Ivy League, with a 25-19, 25-14, 25-16 victory over the Brown Bears in Providence. Junior outside hitter Sheena Donohue led the Tigers with 16 kills on 25 swings and hit .560, while senior right-side player Kelli Grobe killed five balls on six swings for an .833 attack percentage. Senior Parker Henritze led Princeton with 12 digs and an impressive five aces, and added seven kills in the win. The powerful middle combination of Lindsey Ensign and Cathryn Quinn recorded 15 kills on 26 swings, and Ensign added five blocks for the Tigers.
Senior setter Bailey Robinson led the offense with 33 assists and was a perfect 4-for-4 on kill attempts. She helped the Princeton offense hit at least .385 in each set; the Tigers finished the match with a .420 attack percentage. Princeton had 18 more kills and four fewer errors than Brown, which was led by Megan Toman's nine kills.
Princeton will take on Harvard and Dartmouth next weekend. The Crimson nearly upset first-place Yale last weekend before falling 3-2 in New Haven. Yale, which ended Princeton's Ivy League record 18-Ivy match win streak Friday night, dropped its first Ivy League match of the season with a 3-2 loss against Penn and enters the next weekend with a half-game lead over Princeton.
