Women's Soccer to Host Bucknell Wednesday in Final Regular-Season Non-League Game
October 28, 2008 | Women's Soccer
PRINCETON -- As they prepare for the last two weeks of a run at the Ivy League title, the Princeton women's soccer team will take on a tough Bucknell squad Wednesday at Roberts Stadium.
Princeton (9-2-2) vs. Bucknell (10-5-2)
Wednesday, Oct. 29, 7 p.m. at Roberts Stadium
Coaches - Princeton: Julie Shackford (14th season/William & Mary '88)
Bucknell - Ben Landis (Fourth season/Bucknell '96)
All-Time Series: Princeton leads 5-1-0
Fight to the finish
Princeton's 2-1 defeat to Harvard last Saturday tightened the Ivy League race. Down by two standings points to the Crimson, Princeton will need a Harvard loss in either of its last two league games, at Dartmouth and versus Columbia, coupled with Tiger victories at Cornell and at home against Penn in order to claim an outright Ivy title and NCAA berth.
Last time against Bucknell
It was indeed a spooky halloween for the Tigers last Oct. 31 in Lewisburg, Pa. Bucknell scored the first four goals in its 4-1 win with two each by Jennifer Dervarics and Kelsey Johnson. Princeton's goal came with 15 minutes to play on a penalty kick by Diana Matheson.
Series with Bucknell
Princeton leads the all-time series with Bucknell 5-1 with all six meetings coming in head coach Julie Shackford's tenure. The Tigers are 3-0 versus Bucknell on campus, winning in 1995, 1997 and 1999.
On the right side
Princeton has already guaranteed its 12th straight non-losing season by running out to a 9-2-2 record so far. A win Wednesday would give the Tigers their first 10-win season since going 19-3 in 2004.
Your home for dramatic soccer
Saturday's loss was Princeton's first at its new Roberts Stadium home. The Tigers are 5-1-1 at Roberts this season, and all seven games have been decided by one goal or less.
Patriot games
Bucknell is the fourth Patriot League team the Tigers will face this season. Princeton is 3-0 against the first three, defeating Colgate, American and Lehigh without allowing a goal to any of them. Bucknell has not faced American yet, but the Bison also defeated Lehigh and Colgate.
One home date left
After Wednesday, the Princeton men's and women's soccer teams will have only one home date remaining, Nov. 8 versus Penn. The men's team will take the field first at 1 p.m., followed by the women at 4.
Ivy ties
Bucknell head coach Ben Landis spent five seasons at Dartmouth from 2000-04, with the first three as an assistant coach and the last two as head coach.
Local Bison
Two Bison went to high school in Princeton's home county of Mercer as freshman Casey Crowley and sophomore Caitlin Holtz are Peddie School (Hightstown) alumnae.
