Banfich Leads Princeton To Second Place at Notre Dame Invite

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (10/3/08) ? Freshman Alex Banfich had an impressive showing at the Notre Dame Invitational finished 16th and leading the No. 6-ranked Princeton women's cross country team to a second-place finish.
Banfich set a personal best time of 17:03 in the 5K race. In fact, eight Tigers set personal best times, including: seniors Jolee VanLeuven and Megan Brandeland, juniors Reilly Kiernan and Alexa Glencer, and sophomores Sarah Cummings, Ashley Higginson, Liz Deir, and Liz Deir.
Johnson was just five seconds behind Banfich, cruising in at 17:08 for 21st place. Cummings finished 25th of 186 runners, with a time of 17:11. Rounding out the top five Princeton harriers were Higginson at 17:15 and Kiernan at 17:16.
VanLeuven was far out from the top five, recording a time of 17:18. Cotello, Glencer and Deir all finished in under 18 minutes.
Princeton finished behind Florida State, which is ranked No. 3 in the nation, and ahead of 10 other nationally-ranked programs.
A total of 23 teams competed in the blue race at the Notre Dame Invite. North Carolina's Brie Felnagle took the top individual honors with a winning time of 16:21. Florida Stat's Susan Kuijen came in second, followed by Tulsa's Alex Becker in third place at 16:36.
