Men's Cross Country Finishes Fourth at Regionals

PRINCETON, N.J. (11/15/08) ? The Princeton men's cross country team finished in fourth place at the 2008 NCAA Men's Cross Country Mid-Atlantic Regional on Saturday, Nov. 15.
Georgetown won the event with 27 points and Penn State followed with 73 points to each earn automatic bids to the NCAA Championship. Villanova came in third with 84 points.
Senior Michael Maag was the first Princeton Tiger across the line, covering the course in 31:41. Freshman Brian Leung also finished in the top 10, coming in at 32:19 for ninth place. Both have a chance at automatically qualifying for the tournament, if Princeton does not receive an at-large bid.
Sophomore Rob Speare finished 25th with a time of 33:09. Senior Bryan Sharkey and junior Ben Sitler were the final two scorers for Princeton, stepping on the mat at 34:12 and 34:16. Senior Cameron Marantz and freshman Trevor Van Ackeren also ran for Princeton, coming in at 34:23 and 35:31, respectively.
Georgetown's Andrew Bumbalough earned the individual title with a first-place time of 31:36.
Thirteen at-large teams will be selected by the NCAA, tomorrow, Nov. 16. The first four finishes at each regional not on one of those qualifying teams will be automatically qualified. However, they must have finished in the top 25 in the region. The committee will also select two at-large individuals.
The NCAA Championship will be held on Monday, Nov. 24 in Terre Haute, Ind.
