November 30, 2008 | Women's Basketball
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (11/30/08) ? Senior Jessica Berry scored a season-best 12 points for the Princeton women's basketball team, but Lehigh broke it's two-game win streak, in a 63-43 game at Stabler Arena on Sunday, Nov. 30.
Princeton took a 5-1 lead to start the game but the lead would be short lived as it switched hands four times in the first three minutes. Lehigh went on a 5-0 run to go up by three, 11-8, at 12:44 before Princeton battled back to take the lead. Another 5-0 run by the Mountain Hawks earned them a four-point lead, 17-15. The Tigers answered back with a 12-2 run to go up by six, 25-19, at 3:53. Lehigh finished out the second half on a 12-0 run to take a 31-25 lead at halftime.
Helping the Mountain Hawks take the six-point lead at halftime was shooting 90 percent (9-10) at the free throw line and draining 50 percent of their three-point shots (4-8). Princeton shot an uncharacteristic 50 percent (2-4) from the free throw line and hit five of its 13 three-point chances.
Lehigh begins the second half grabbing seven points to Princeton's two, to take an 11-point lead at 14:34. The Tigers went on a 6-2 run to come within seven, 40-33, at 9:20. That would be as close as Princeton would come in the second half, as Lehigh went on a 9-3 run to make it 49-36 with under four minutes to play. Princeton's foul trouble and sharp free throwing shooting by Lehigh, gave the Mountain Hawks their next nine points to make it 57-42. Lehigh closed out the game with four more points and Princeton had one.
Princeton shot 23.1 percent for the game compared to Lehigh's 35.2 percent. The Mountain Hawks shot 38.5 percent from behind the arc and 80 percent from the charity stripe. The Tigers were 23.1 percent from long range and 58.3 percent from the free throw line.\
Adding to Berry's 12 points, was sophomore Addie Micir with seven. Micir also led the Tigers on the glass with six rebounds. Three other players had five rebounds. Whitney Downs had a team-best three assists and sophomore Krystal Hill collected a team-high three steals.
Erica Posser led Lehigh in the scoring column with 15 points. She added three rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Haly Crites collected a team-best eight boards and chipped in seven points. Tricia Smith came up with four steals, and Kristen Dalton shot 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
Princeton is now 3-2 on the season, and Lehigh improves to 5-1.
Princeton makes its longest trip of the year when it travels out west to the Collier's International Classic at Cal on Dec. 6-7.
