Princeton Sweeps ECAC Weekly Cross Country Awards

CENTERVILLE, Mass. (11/9/08) ? Senior Michael Maag and junior Liz Costello were named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Cross Country Division I Athletes of the Week, it was announced by the conference on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
Maag led the Princeton men to its third straight Ivy League Heptagonal
Championship. He placed second with a time of 24:32, the fastest time
a Princeton runner has recorded at the championship since 1981. Maag
was honored with first-team All-Ivy League honors for his second-place
finish.
Costello won her second straight individual crown, winning the Ivy League Heptagonal Championship in record time. She crossed the line at 16:59, the fastest time in championship history. The second-place winner clocked in 34.9 seconds behind her, which is the widest margin in event history. Costello was named first-team All-Ivy League and was earned the GoPrincetonTigers.com Athlete of the Week honor.
Maag and Costello have helped the Tigers maintain their rankings in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) polls. The men are ranked No. 2 in the Mid-Atlantic region for the third straight week, while the women are first, a position they've held since the poll began six weeks ago. The women's team continues to be ranked No. 4 in the nation, and the men continue to receive votes in the national poll.
Princeton hosts the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional on Saturday, Nov. 15.
