PRINCETON ? Harvard scored seven of the last nine points of the first half and kept the momentum going after the break in a 65-51 win over the Princeton women's basketball team at Jadwin Gym Friday night.
The Tigers fall to 5-19 overall and 2-6 in Ivy League play while Harvard improved to 14-9, 7-2.
Freshman guard Krystal Hill led Princeton with 16 points and had a career-best nine rebounds, also a game high. While Hill was the only Tiger with double-figure points, Harvard had a pair of such players with Katie Rollins scoring 20 and Emily Tay 13.
Harvard outshot Princeton 43.4 percent to 30.9 percent and held the Ivy League's leading scorer, Meagan Cowher, to six points to break a 26-game double-digit point streak dating back to last season. Rebounds were even at 38-38 and Princeton had one fewer turnover, 16-15. The Tigers have gone 15 straight games without hitting 20 giveaways.
Princeton had one early lead on a Caitlin O'Neill three-pointer with 18:31 left in the first half that put the Tigers ahead 3-2, but Harvard soon went on a 12-2 run that gave it a double-digit lead for the first time at 18-7 midway through the half.
The Tigers were within five as late as 26-21 with four minutes before the break, but Harvard went on a 7-0 run to take a 12-point lead. A Cowher bucket cut the lead to 10 by halftime.
Cowher scored again right after halftime to bring the deficit to single-digits for the last time at 33-25. Harvard's lead grew as large as 24 at 60-36 with 6:25 left.
Princeton will host Dartmouth for a 6 p.m. tip Saturday on “Think Pink” night in Jadwin Gym as part of a Women's Basketball Coaches Association national initiative in the fight against breast cancer. All fans who wear pink will gain free admission.
