Princeton Takes Three at Maryland Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The 18th-ranked Princeton women's water polo team picked up three wins
on Saturday to move to 6-2 this season. Princeton defeated St. Francis,
Marist and Iona.
In the day's first game, Princeton started slow but used a six-goal second quarter to pull away from the Terriers and pick up the decisive win. Sophomore Phoebe Champion and freshman Sarah Hutchison led Princeton with three goals scored, while sophomore Lauren Sabb scored twice to lift her team-leading goal total to 12. Five others added single goals, including sophomore Berenice Jimenez, who scored her first collegiate goal.

Princeton was scheduled to play Slippery Rock last night, but that game was canceled. Instead, Princeton added a game today against Marist at 2 p.m., and topped the Red Foxes 10-8 as Princeton pulled ahead in the final quarter after the teams entered that period deadlocked at 7-7. In a game that went back-and-forth throughout, Marist got out to a one-goal lead after a quarter of play, but Princeton drew even at the half 4-4. Each team scored three times in the third quarter before Princeton pulled ahead with three goals in the final stanza to Marist's one. Freshmen Tanya Wilcox and Lauren Brunner scored the final two goals to pull Princeton ahead. Princeton had its chances throughout as the Tigers were 0-5 on 5-meter chances.
Wilcox and Brunner both scored twice in the win. Six others added single goals as Champion and Hutchison both scored once and now have four goals on the day. Sabb added a goal to lift her total to 13 Senior Natalie Kim played the full game in goal and made six saves on 14 shots on goal. The Tigers complete the day at 5 p.m. against Iona.
