Princeton Splits Games at Elite Six Tournament

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The 18th-ranked Princeton women's water polo team split its two games on Saturday at the Elite Six Tournament played at Maryland. Princeton dropped the first game to No. 15 Hartwick, and then topped Brown in the afternoon.
In the first game, the Tigers fell behind early to defending Eastern Champion Hartwick and stayed close throughout before Hartwick opened up the final gap late and won by three goals. Six Tigers scored goals in the Princeton loss. Freshman Lauren Brunner and sophomore Berenice Jimenez led the way with two goals each, while four others added single goals. Freshman Christina Michel played the whole game in goal.

Princeton came back to win its second game of the tournament with a 10-9 overtime win over Brown. Princeton jumped ahead early with three goals in the first period and led 4-2 by the half. Brown scored five times though in the third quarter to take a one-goal lead to the fourth quarter, but the Tigers drew even in the final period and the game went to overtime tied at 9-9.
Neither team was able to score in the first overtime period but sophomore Lauren Sabb put the Tigers ahead with her fourth goal of the game in the second overtime session for the 10-9 win. Sabb scored four goals in the win and freshmen Tanya Wilcox and Sarah Hutchison scored two goals each.
