Men's Tennis Earns Big Win At No. 42 Clemson, 4-3
March 01, 2008 | Men's Tennis
Both Charlie Brosens and Ryan Kim won three-set thrillers to lead the Princeton men's tennis team to an impressive 4-3 victory over 42nd-ranked Clemson Friday afternoon at the Hoke Smith Tennis Center.
Kim's win was of the come-from-behind variety in a marathon at No. 5. He lost the first set to Derek DiFazio, then won the second set 7-5. The decisive third set came down to a tiebreak, which Kim won to help Princeton (4-2) clinch the match.
Brosens won the first set 6-3 at No. 4 against Ike Belk, then took the decisive third set by the same score.
The most impressive singles win of the day for Princeton came at No. 1, where junior Peter Capkovic lost just two games in a pasting of Gera Boryachinskiy. George Carpeni also won in straight sets, at No. 3, getting a service break in each set of a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Kevin Fleck.
Princeton also took both of its singles defeats to three sets in Friday's match.
The Tigers play at Furman Saturday afternoon and Georgia State Sunday afternoon on a three-match swing through the Southeast.
