Baseball Drops Series Opener at UNC Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Princeton baseball team fell 7-2 to UNC Greensboro on Saturday afternoon in the opening game of its Spring Break trip. UNCG hit three home runs in the win.
Both teams had 11 hits in the game, but UNC Greensboro was able to take advantage of its chances better than the Tigers. Princeton scored the game's first run and last run, but in between the Spartans scored seven times.
Princeton went ahead 1-0 with a run in the first when sophomore Jack Murphy singled home freshman Matt Connor, who had reached on a double. Princeton's second run came in the top of the ninth inning when a single from junior Derek Beckman plated sophomore Jon Broscious. Connor, junior Adrian Turnham and senior Spencer Lucian each had two hits in the game.
Princeton's 1-0 lead last until the fifth inning when UNCG pushed four runs across the plate. The first run came on a single before Greg Feltes delivered a three-run home run. Three of the four runs in the inning were unearned. Matt Gaski added a two-run homer in the seventh inning and Drew Gehringer hit a solo shot in the eighth to account for rest of the Spartan runs.
Freshman Dan Barnes pitched five innings and allowed four runs on four hits to take the loss. Senior Steven Miller and sophomore Langford Stuber also pitched in the game. UNCG's Greg Martin got the win, allowing a single run in seven innings.
Princeton had its six-game win streak snapped and is now 6-2 this season. The Tigers continue their series at UNC Greensboro tomorrow at 1 p.m.
