Navy Rallies For 2-1 Win in Baseball Opener
March 22, 2008 | Baseball
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Navy rallied for a 2-1 extra-innings win over the Princeton baseball team on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore David Hale had an excellent outing, allowing a run on two hits and he took a no-hitter into the sixth inning.
Game 1
David Hale had his no-hit bid broken up in the sixth inning as Navy defeated the Princeton baseball team 2-1 in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday at Max Bishop Stadium. Hale held Navy hitless through 5.2 innings and allowed just two hits in seven innings of work.
Princeton took a 1-0 lead with a run in the first inning when junior Adrian Turnham singled through the left side to plate junior Dan DeGeorge, who had led off the game with a double. Princeton managed six hits in the game, but was unable to add another run and held the 1-0 lead until the sixth inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, with two outs and a man on second base, Michael Speciale singled to break up the no hitter and plate the runner. Hale was able to get out of the inning. He also allowed a hit in the seventh inning and finished his day allowing a run on two hits and striking out five.
Freshman Matt Welsh came on in the eighth inning. A walk and a bunt put two on, but a double play erased two and left a man on third. That runner scored when Nick Driscoll reached on what should have been an inning-ending groundout and was ruled an error.
