Nightingale Qualifies For NCAA Regionals, Kloss Wins Pole Vault At Larry Ellis Invitational

Senior David Nightingale returned to the track with an NCAA regional qualifying performance in the 1,500 meters to highlight Princeton performances in the distance races at the Larry Ellis Invitational Friday night at Weaver Track. Several field events at the meet were also completed Friday.
In a strong 1,500-meter field running in several heats, Nightingale had the fifth-best time among collegiate athletes on the night, finishing the race in 3:45.70. His time was more than two seconds lower than the regional qualifying standard. In all, nine runners in the race qualified for NCAA regionals.
On the women's side, junior Jess Kloss won the pole vault for Princeton, clearing 3.75 meters (12 feet, 3 1/2 inches) to easily outdo her competition. She was the only athlete at the meet to clear the 12-foot barrier. In the discus, two Tiger athletes had throws among the top five of more than 20 competitors--Emma Giunipero's toss of 144 feet, six inches was third, while Christine Vidmar's throw of 130 feet, one inch was fifth. In the hammer throw, senior captain Emma Harper's best throw of 168 feet, two inches was third-best among collegiate athletes.
On the track, the Princeton women had two runners in the top 10 of the 800-meter field. Senior Liz Bergold was fifth among collegiate runners in 2:11.90, while classmate Karen Aherne was right behind in seventh in a time of 2:13.07.
For the men, Zack Predmore finished 11th in the 5,000 meters in 14:40.68. Freshman George Abyad had a strong showing in the discus, finishing a close second among collegiate competitors with a best toss of 156 feet, 10 inches.
Action in the decathlon and heptathlon also concluded Friday. Princeton's K.C. Wade led heptathlon competitors with 3,933 points; Penn's Max Westman won the decathlon with a score of 7,322.
