Volleyball Routs Fordham To Open 2008 Season
September 12, 2008 | Women's Volleyball
The 2008 Princeton women's volleyball season began right where the 2007 one left off. Led by an incredible effort from the Princeton middles, the Tigers knocked off host Fordham 3-0 in the first night of the Rose Hill Classic. Two-time All-Ivy middle Lindsey Ensign had 15 kills in 20 swings, while freshman middle Cathryn Quinn had nine kills and hit .571 in her collegiate debut, to lead Princeton to a season-opening win.
Princeton cruised in the first two games to win 25-13 and 25-12. Fordham battled back in the third game, but Princeton held on for the 25-22 victory. The match was Fordham's 10th on the season and dropped the Rams to 6-4, while the Tigers moved to 1-0. Since the beginning of the 2006 season, Princeton is 43-7.
Ensign led all players with 15 kills and didn't record a single error in a .750 hitting performance. She added a match-best three aces and recorded one solo block to begin her final season at Princeton. Reigning Ivy League Player of the Year Parker Henritze had five kills and seven digs, while right-side player Kelli Grobe and outside Sheena Donohue both recorded eight kills in the win. Freshman Hillary Ford, also making her collegiate debut, recorded 14 kills as the libero; that total was matched by senior Sasha Sadrai.
Princeton hit .330 as a team, including a match-best .385 in the second game. In the first two games, Princeton sided out 19 of Fordham's 26 serves. The Tigers will take on Stony Brook and Manhattan in the final day of the Rose Hill Classic Saturday.
