Men's Water Polo Opens League Slate This Weekend On Road

The 18th-ranked Princeton men's water polo team opens its CWPA Southern Division slate of games this weekend with contests at No. 19 Johns Hopkins, No. 14 Navy and George Washington. The Tigers enter the weekend with a 3-4 record.
The Tigers have won three of their last four games entering the weekend, including a 2-1 mark in last weekend's ECAC Championships at Harvard. The Tigers fell to St. Francis in the quarterfinals of the event, but then defeated Brown and Iona to place fifth among the eight teams.
The Tigers got seven goals over the three games from junior Douglas Wigley, who now leads the team with 10 goals scored. Junior Eric Vreeland has nine goals this season to rank second, one ahead of junior Mark Zalewski's eight goals. Senior Brendan Colgan and sophomore Jeff Cole are tied for fourth with seven scores.
Six Tigers put together three-goal games over the weekend. Junior Gregor Horstmeyer had three goals in the loss to St. Francis, while Cole, Vreeland, Wigley and freshman Mike Helou added three goals apiece in the Brown win. Wigley added another three goals against Iona. Helou's three goals marked the first three of his career.
The Tigers have spread their offense around with 11 players scoring goals and 15 adding assists. Vreeland leads all players with nine assists and is now 11 assists shy of tying John Stover's career assist mark of 90.
The Tigers begin league play this weekend looking improve upon last season's 3-5 league record. The Tigers open the weekend against Johns Hopkins, which placed second at last weekend's ECAC Championships. The Blue Jays are 5-7 overall and have wins this season over Navy, Harvard and George Washington.
The Tigers continue on Saturday evening at Navy against the 9-6 Midshipmen. Navy split four games last weekend at the NorCal Tournament, topping Air Force and UC Davis, but losing to Loyola Marymount and Santa Clara. Princeton completes the weekend at George Washington.
