Cross Country Teams Gear Up for 2008 Season
September 04, 2008 | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
PRINCETON, N.J. ? The Princeton University men and women's cross country teams are back on campus and gearing up for what they hope will be another record-breaking season.
The women anticipate making another run at the NCAA title, as they bring back all five of their top finishers from last season. On that list is senior Megan Brandeland, juniors Liz Costello and Christy Johnson, and sophomores Sarah Cummings and Ashley Higginson.
The team has high expectations after not losing a meet in 2007, which included wins at the Ivy League Heptagonal and the NCAA regional meet. The squad finished 14th at the NCAA Championship, despite having its top runner, Liz Costello fall ill during the race.
The men's team is also eyeing its third consecutive Ivy League Heptagonal title and will have an excellent chance as it brings back two of its top three runners from 2007, senior Michael Maag and junior Ben Sitler. Both runners qualified individually for the NCAA Championship last year after the team finished third at the NCAA regional.
Princeton hosts three events this year, beginning with the Old Nassau Run on Saturday, Sept. 13 that kicks off the 2008 season. The Princeton Invitational will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18 and highlighting the home schedule is the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional on Saturday, Nov. 15.
