VanLeuven Wins 5000 Meters at Penn State National Open

COLLEGE PARK, Pa. (1/31/09) ? Senior Jolee VanLeuven beat out 19 other runners as she finished in first place in the 5000 meters at the Penn State National Open. VanLeuven crossed the tape in 16:37.79 to qualify provisionally for the NCAAs.
Freshman Alex Banfich clocked in at 16:54.01 for third place in the same event, while sophomore Sarah Cummings earned a time of 17:10.94.
Senior Megan Brandeland and juniors Alexa Glencer Liz Costello faced off in the women's mile. Costello earned the best time of the three, coming in at 4:48.22, for sixth place. Brandeland crossed the line at 4:55.99 and Glencer at 4:59.46.
Senior Agatha Offorjebe turned in a time of 58.14 in the 400, while freshman Michelle Yousefian finished the 500 in 1:19.56. Freshman Libby Bliss and senior Melissa Swigert competed in the 800, and turned in times of 2:18.34 and 2:19.53, respectively.
Freshman Eileen Moran ran in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash and went on to run the 200 in 25.59 seconds.
The 4x800 was Princeton's best relay team of the day, taking fourth place with a time of 9:17.28. The 4x400 clocked in at 3:55.44 and the distance medley finished in 11:53.38 for ninth place.
In the pole vault, senior Jessica Kloss reached 3.76 meters to take ninth place while freshman Lydia Arias was at 3.51 meters. Sophomore Emma Ruggiero was the lone Princeton representative in the weight throw and posted a toss of 14.64 meters.
Competing in the triple jump for the Tigers were sophomores Bianca Williams and Tiffany Liu. Williams tackled the triple jump and recorded a leap of 11.15 meters, while Liu jumped 10.49 meters.
Princeton hosts its own invitational next weekend at Jadwin Gym, beginning at 11 a.m., on Saturday. Selected members of the team will compete at the new Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York City.
