Women's Hockey Wins Third Straight; Downs RPI 3-1

TROY, N.Y. -- The 10th-ranked Princeton women's hockey team used to third period goals to pull ahead and knock off Rensselaer 3-1 on Friday evening at the Houston Field House. The win was Princeton's third straight over a team ahead of them in the ECAC standings.
Tied at one in the third period, junior Maddie Endicott gave Princeton a 2-1 lead when she scored with a shot over the shoulder of Rensselaer goaltender Sonja van der Bliek. The goal came off a cross-ice feed from freshman Heather Landry and freshman Julie Johnson also assisted on Endicott's second goal of the season.
The Tigers added an insurance tally at 12:37 as junior Stephanie Denino scored with a backhander from the far circle through a screen. Freshman Danielle DiCesare and junior Melanie Wallace were credited with the assists. With her two assists, Wallace assumed the team lead in points with 17, equaling her career high set as a freshman.
The Tigers struck first in the opening period on freshman Paula Romanchuk's team-leading eighth goal of the season off a scrum in front of the net. Wallace picked up an assist in front of the net and Denino sent the initial shot into the crease from the point. Rensselaer tied things up in the second frame when junior winger Whitney

Princeton senior goaltender Kristen Young finished with 24 saves to improve to 10-8-1 overall while her counterpart, van der Bliek made 19 stops in the loss and is now 10-6-2.
Princeton moved to 10-8-1 overall and 7-5 in the ECAC. The Tigers won their third-straight game over a team ahead of them in the ECAC standings and also won their third straight on the road over a team that had beaten them at home earlier this season. The Tigers jumped to third in the ECAC with the win.
Princeton completes the weekend tomorrow afternoon at Union.
