Comeback Falls Short For Women’s Hockey Against RPI
February 15, 2025 | Women's Ice Hockey
PRINCETON, N.J.- Although the Tigers struck first, just 41 seconds into the game against the RPI, the Engineers strung together four goals in a row to pick up the 4-3 win in the final game of the regular season.
Issy Wunder got the play started with some pressure right at the goalie crease. Mackenzie Alexander then added to the attack before Emerson O'Leary finally put the puck in the back of the net. Wunder's assist marked her 100th career point.
The Engineers then knotted things up at one a piece on a power play goal from Georgia Bailey.
Power plays and Bailey proved to be the difference maker in the matchup. Bailey scored her second power play goal of the game to open the second period. She then tacked on her third goal for the hat trick towards the end of the period.
RPI was back on the power play in the closing minutes of the period. As the final seconds ticked off the clock, Ellie Kaiser scored on the man advantage to make it a 4-1 score in favor of the Engineers.
Sarah Paul worked to try and chip away at RPI's lead in the third with a slapshot off the pass from Lucia DiGirolamo. Taylor Hyland, who replaced starting keeper Jennifer Olnowich in the third, was pulled so Princeton could add an extra attacker. Paul then scored her second of the night on yet another slapshot for her 28th goal, which is tied for the most across the nation.
Unfortunately for Princeton, there was not enough time to complete the comeback as the Tigers fell to the Engineers.
The stage is set for a rematch between the two teams in the opening round of the ECAC Playoffs. The game is set for 3:00 PM on Friday at Baker Rink.
