Big Day From Wunder Closes Door On Union In OT
February 14, 2025 | Women's Ice Hockey
PRINCETON, N.J.- Issy Wunder is having a career year and continues to add to her resume. Tonight's matchup was no different. In what started as a battle of the goalkeepers, Wunder took control and found the net not once, but twice to help Princeton defeat Union 2-1 in overtime.
The score stood at 0-0 following the first two periods at Baker Rink. Jennifer Olnowich had 14 saves in net and Union's keeper Sophie Matsoukas had 26 through 40 minutes of play.
Princeton looked to break the ice in the third, and a scorching slapshot from Wunder made it a 1-0 game.
The Garnet Chargers quickly responded as Maddie Leaney tied things up less than 30 seconds later on an unassisted goal to set the score to 1-1.
The Tigers fired off 16 shots and had a power play attempt but were unable to convert as the game headed to overtime.
In the extra period, Princeton had Emerson O'Leary, Gabby Kim and Wunder on the ice as the Tigers attacked. O'Leary battled along the boards behind the Union goal and was finally able to get the puck to Kim. Kim then passed over to Wunder who had a wide open shot with Matsoukas out of position to ice the game and give Princeton the win.
Wunder is now just one point shy of 100 in her career with the Tigers.
Princeton will host the RPI Engineers tomorrow at Baker in the final contest of the regular season. Puck drop is set for 3:00 PM and the team's senior day ceremony will take place after the conclusion of the game.
